MeshBox Biweekly Report (2020.02.08-2020.02.21)

2020 has been a challenging year for humanity. The good news is that the spread of new coronavirus is being effectively suppressed in China, and the number of new cases in most other areas besides Hubei has been declining for half a month. The bad news is that the spread of new coronaviruses in other countries, including Japan and South Korea, is on the rise. The economies and education of many countries and regions have been severely affected by the epidemic to varying degrees.

Officials from the Community Investment Inclusive Fund of the Hong Kong Government contacted MeshBox advisor Henry Wang, in the hope that MeshBox and SmartMesh could support their “2020 Virtual Internship Program”, and Mr. Wang gladly agreed. The MeshBox and SmartMesh Foundation, which are preparing an“Internship and Work Study Program” with the Singapore University of Social Sciences, have regarded blockchain-related education as a necessary element and social responsibility for the development of the value Internet. Through the education and training of college students who are about to enter society, the gradual integration of the global token system has a profound impact.

Here are the specifics of this week:

  1. In the MeshBox system software upgrade project, the system will be upgraded from OpenWRT17 to OpenWRT19. Web management development is in progress, and the development of configuration pages such as WAN setting interface, static DHCP function configuration interface, port forwarding part including port mapping, DMZ, UPNP, etc. is completed.

  1. MeshBox-Tesla’s FCC certification is paused, waiting for the full resumption of laboratory operations in Shenzhen foreign certification companies.

The MeshBox hardware team started looking into IEEE802.11ax this week. The Wi-Fi Alliance has renamed the IEEE 802.11ax standard to Wi-Fi 6, the sixth generation of Wi-Fi. (The existing 802.11ac standard being called Wi-Fi 5.) The speed of Wi-Fi 6 can reach nearly 10 Gbps, which is about 40% faster than Wi-Fi 5.

If deployed properly, a big advantage of Wi-Fi 6 over 5G is that it is easier to support more cost-effective indoor coverage. Wi-Fi devices are more popular than 5G-ready devices or even 4G and 3G compatible devices. Although some of the latest smartphones currently have chips that support 5G (and Wi-Fi 6), most other wireless computing devices such as laptops and smart devices only support Wi-Fi connectivity. Given the popularity of Wi-Fi 6 compatible devices and the deployment schedule for 5G infrastructure, Wi-Fi 6 should have a faster adoption curve.

Compared with 5G, wireless devices themselves tend to require lower power consumption when connected to Wi-Fi. Similarly, the amount of power required to connect and send and receive data will vary greatly due to several factors. Wi-Fi 6 technology is particularly efficient due to an internal feature called Target Wake Time (TWT).

Finally, and often the most important point is the cost. Compared to the typical Wi-Fi 6 deployment life cycle, 5G is much more expensive due to the licensed spectrum needed and cutting-edge performance, which is not required for the most popular applications. This is indeed true for residential Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The cost-effectiveness of providing Wi-Fi in the workplace will be much higher than using a 5G carrier network.

  1. MeshBox CEO Peter Yan, advisor Henry Wang, and SmartMesh chief architect Scott Wang held a web conference with the CEO and Marketing Director of Singapore’s Pundi X Foundation to discuss the integration of the two projects in the Living Lab in Singapore and the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) Campus deployment. We planned for SMT and MESH to appear in the Pundi X payment system. According to the plan, MeshBox and XPOS will be deployed on campus so that university staff and students can use SMT and MESH to buy books, supplies, and food. Professor David Lee hopes that the Living Lab will become a showcase for the token economy in the world.
  2. MeshBox advisor Henry Wang had a cordial exchange with the business representative of Boracay, Philippines. Mr. Feliz introduced the political situation and business resources of Boracay after the election, and welcomed the deployment of MeshBox on the beach-front stores and restaurantsof Boracay. Mr. Wang said that. For the past year, he focused on Singapore to make a blockchain Living Lab in order to better develop the technology to further expand into Southeast Asian markets such as the Philippines and Indonesia. Boracay is a prime deployment site for Singapore’s Living Lab ecosystem to be trialed, before being expanded globally. Here, the world’s most advanced AI Blockchain IoT (ABIoT) smart city can be deployed on the scenic beachfront commercial district, and inclusive finance and inclusive education can be deployed into the poor and backward central regions of the island.
  3. Dr. Peter Yan, CEO of MeshBox, advisor Henry Wang and Singapore intern Fiona held a follow-up meeting with SUSS on the Living Lab collaboration to plan the next phase. Singapore University of Social Sciences’ feedback is that blockchain is an area that most Singapore students are not familiar with. The two sides have come to consensus to first hold a two-day seminar to train students to understand the working principles of blockchain, SmartMesh and MeshBox technologies and their comprehensive applications, followed by introducing the upcoming innovation and entrepreneurship competition. The goal is to complete the competition before the “2020 Singapore Blockchain Week” event in July, and showcase the application results developed by students for the Living Lab during that Blockchain Week. After that, students can also participate in the subsequent global deployment of MeshBox. For example, students can participate in the market, business, deployment and operation of the Boracay blockchain-based applicationconstruction.
