Today, MeshBox’s Latin America Ambassador Dr. Christian W. Meniw brings good news to the Foundation that Elon Musk has registered his satellite company StarLink with the General Administration of Justice of Argentina to provide satellite broadband services in Argentina. StarLink uses low Earth orbit satellites to bring faster speeds and lower latency broadband services to underserved rural and remote areas around the world. Last year, Dr. Meniw has devoted himself to furthering MeshBox business in South America. The problem he encountered was that there was the lack of Internet backhaul in many parts of South America. Starlink’s registration in Argentina indicates that the availability of satellite-based internet backhaul in the near future. The SmartMesh Space-Ground Integration Network designed by Dr. Meniw using Starlink+MeshBox for South America will soon be realized.
Software Development
- Preliminary considerations for MeshBox side-chain consensus:
1.1 Block interval: Period = 30s;
1.2 Consensus algorithm: PoS;
1.3 Mortgage MESH threshold: 5,000,000 MESH (preliminary determination);
1.4 Epoch: 21 blocks;
1.5 During each Epoch, the consensus algorithm randomly selects 21 nodes from the list of all mortgaged nodes as the block producing nodes for each Epoch.
1.6 When blocks in each epoch are generated, the delay time of reordering the block generation of each node will be randomly scattered, and the delay time of each node will be delayed for 5 seconds after reordering. The block generation time of each block is:
parent.Time+Period+RandomdDelay(5s,10s,15s…);
1.7 Reward distribution according to the preliminary plan of 2-year halving. In each blocktime, the corresponding MESH reward to the miner will be issued. Also, at the end of every Epoch, MESH rewards to the POM participants will be issued.
2. Studied PoM process and its algorithm implementation.
3. Studied WiFi beacon related documents and technical implementation.
4. Compiled new version of Spectrum and ran tests on MeshBox Maxwell.
Hardware Development
- Analyzed standardization of PoM Beacon driven by third-party smart hardware devices.
- Participated in the design of MeshBox side-chain consensus algorithm and mortgage threshold.
- Analyzed mining reward model, staking income, and other information in the IoT industry, and analyzed their correlation with the performance of the secondary market.

Dr. Meniw expressed that while Starlink (basic) internet reported speeds of 100 to 200 Mbps, Starlink Premium promised speeds of 150 to 500 Mbps and offered a more stable service. On the company’s official website, it states that Starlink costs $99 a month with a one-time device fee of $499. StarLink Premium is $500 per month, with a one-time device fee of $2,500. The $99 to $500 monthly service fee for satellite Internet is too costly for any family in South America.
MeshBox CEO Dr. Peter Yan and Dr. Meniw jointly designed a WiFi network consisting of hundreds to thousands of MeshBoxes that can utilize several satellite terminals to share Internet connections for thousands of people and significantly reduce the cost for each user. MeshBox also provides in-building and multi-square-kilometer coverage to share satellite internet with the entire community. Thus, MeshBox and Starlink provide affordable, easy-to-deploy, and scalable Internet access to unconnected users. On top of this connectivity infrastructure, SmartMesh and MetaLife provide blockchain and distributed applications to further expand benefits in finance, e-commerce, healthcare, and education.
